Purpose for Today

FOR WE ARE GOD’S MASTERPIECE, HE HAS CREATED US ANEW IN CHRIST JESUS, SO WE CAN DO THE GOOD THINGS HE PLANNED FOR US LONG AGO.  EPHESIANS 2:10

God created me with a purpose in mind. As one made to reflect his image, he has created me to fill my world with beauty and good things. Where evil has diminished, destroyed, maimed and hurt the people around me, God has asked me to bring his love, joy, peace, patience, kindness and gentleness to those broken and breaking hearts.

Because he has begun to restore broken places in me and is making me new, I can now go to others who are broken. His compassion changes my heart from judgmental to compassionate. As he heals me, I no longer need to step on the backs of others by judging and condemning. His forgiveness enables me to freely love instead of compare to make myself feel better. When I feel the need to prove myself, critique and destroy with my words, I know this is a place where God needs to work in me. Anything in me that does not bring more wholeness to the world around me, is a place that needs his gentle correction, his healing hand.

I was created to reflect God’s heart to my family, my friends, and the people I come in contact with every day. I do not need a large ‘calling’ to carry out his purposes. The person I am with at the moment is the person I am called to in that moment. If I live my life present and with intention, I will fulfill what God has in mind for my life every day.

Sometimes I miss the trees because I am looking for the forest. Small moments are often the most important. Most of the highlighted stories of Jesus’ life involved small moments where he noticed people. The woman at the well he spoke to, the sick people he healed, and so many others he touched while simply on his way somewhere. The people he encountered ‘on his way’ were the story. They were the important moments. I don’t want to miss what is truly important looking for what I think is important. The smallest moments often leave the greatest impact. God give me eyes to see.

Prayer: Father, Give me eyes to see how you see. Where I am chasing unimportant things in an attempt to make my life grander and bigger, refocus my eyes. Where I am trying to prove myself, help me to rest in the finished work of the Cross. Today, help me bring life and beauty to the situations I am in and the places I go. Let me live a restorative life that leaves other more whole, more loved, more uplifted and more free because they see you more clearly. When I help in diminishing or leaving another more broken, give me the humility to see things clearly and make things right. I give you my today and choose to open my eyes and listen to you.
